Dear baby …

**This post has been sitting in draft since the begining of December**

Dear Baby,

You turned 7 months last week. Time seems to be going so fast yet it feels like you have been part of our little family forever. I can’t remember what we did without you already.  You really are developing all the time at the moment and myself and your daddy are loving watching you. Just as you turned six months, we spent a few days in the Lake District with your grandma and grandad (my parents). You loved all the extra attention they were giving you and they loved giving it to you.

You are rolling all over the place. From about 6 months you started to roll from your tummy back on to your back (which saves me having to flip you back each time as you really disliked being on your tummy but love rolling). We can see that you are wanting to crawl as well but you are not able to just yet. You’re getting a lot better at sitting up and in fact if you are distracted by a toy you can stay sat up for quiet a while. At other times you will start to topple the minute we sit you up.

I had you weighed at just over 6 months and you weighed 16lbs 7 oz I started weaning you with solids a few weeks before you turned six months. You are doing pretty well and enjoying most foods that we give to you. Your favorites seem to be pear puree, natural yogurt, toast fingers and lamb with sweet potato. I’m not sure you are much of a fan of fish just yet but we’ll keep trying. You’re still breastfed which is going well most of the time. At around 5 months you started to refuse to feed if anyone else was around even if you were hungry. You’d just keep pulling off and crying. Even if it was just your daddy, if he so much as coughed whilst you were feeding you would pull off and give him a dirty look! It got quiet stressful at times as you would skip feeds all together if we were out and you weren’t happy about people being around. Thankfully this is getting better and although you are still easily distracted, most of the time, if you are hungry you will feed without screaming. Now that you are eating three meals a day you also need less milk feeds during the day and at more predictable times so this makes it easier to try to be somewhere quiet when you are due a feed.

IMG_6739You got your first 2 teeth (the bottom 2) three weeks back. Remarkably they came through at the exact same time and without you be anything other than your content and happy self. No extra wake ups, crying, nothing really except a bit of nappy rash, rosy red cheeks and chewing everything in sight. I’m hoping all your teeth will come through just as smoothly.

You have the most beautiful giggle that I just can’t get enough of hearing. Luckily for me you are starting to do it a little more often. You still reserve it for special occasions though, we have to work hard to get you to really giggle but it is so worth it. However children seem to be able to get you to giggle very easily. You were giggling uncontrollably at your cousin at his 4th birthday party and he really hadn’t done anything in particular. Later in the week you were giggling uncontrollably at a little boy of about the same age who was sat behind us in a cafe. It was really cute, especially as you still get the hiccups after you’ve giggled a lot.

You still love your sleep. You go to bed around 7:30 (although that seems to be creeping nearer to 8 over the past week) and since not long after the last letter I wrote you will sleep until at least 7am (it was 6am up until 6 months and that has gradually got nearer to 7 some times 8). We had a week or so of you waking up more often again just before we went to the Lakes but thankfully that didn’t last too long. During the day you still have 2 or 3 naps of between 40 minutes to 2 hours (between 6-7 months 3 naps became rarer). You’ve always self settled really well at night and this past month you have got better at self settling in your cot for naps.

We’ve been keeping busy whilst daddy is at work. We still meet up with our mummy and baby friends once a week. You’ve also been enjoying singing nursery rhymes at the library, a weekly music class and your swimming lesson. You seem to really love water and have never once bothered about all the underwater swimming you do at our class. Your daddy baths you each night and you have great fun kicking the water and soaking him in the process.

I can’t wait to see what the next month has in store for us but I do wish time would slow down a little too.

Love Mummy x
